Ship Medical Center Design

Cruise ship medical center design used to be an afterthought for the ship architectural team. But with the advent in 1995 of the Guidelines of Care for Cruise Ship Medical Facilities by the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) and the subsequent adoption by the International Council of Cruise Lines (ICCL) of their own Medical Facilities Guidelines both the public and shipbuilders have become a lot more interested. These new guidelines, while not onerous, put new demands on the design team to create a medical facility that will meet the expectations of cruise passengers.

The principals of MHS are members of the ACEP and have been active in cruise medicine since the Section on Cruise Ship and Maritime Medicine was first formed. They are very familiar with the details of the ACEP and ICCL guidelines. They have worked with a number of cruise lines to design efficient, sophisticated ship medical centers in compliance with ACEP and ICCL guidelines for their new ships.
